About the Owner

Meet Charlie Corby!

Charlie Corby was born in Canandaigua, NY in 1935 and moved to Pittsford when he was 5 years old. His mother was a secretary at Lincoln Ave. School and became a guidance counselor at Sutherland school later on. Charlie went to the University of Rochester where he played Men’s soccer and was even a captain during his senior year in 1957. He started out with a major in industrial management and switched over to business administration after his freshmen year. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Zornow, halfway through college and would later take over the Zornow family business. The Zornow Family had a farm right on the canal where they would milk cows and then sell the milk and little baked goods at a small store front. Charlie learned a lot about pasteurizing and bottling milk in school and was prepared to take over the business from his father in law once he graduated from the U of R.

On June 1, 1961 Charlie Corby’s name was officially in business with Pittsford Farms Dairy. At that time the little 650 square foot storefront and 700 square foot processing plant were both open seven days a week. The raw milk would come from the cows, be processed, bottled and then sold all from the location at 44 North Main Street in Pittsford. Since then Charlie has still been coming to work about every day he can since he lives on the property. He no longer has stocks in Pittsford Farms Dairy but he owns the land the storefront is built on. His son, Charles T Corby mainly runs the business now and has made great strides with their wholesale business. Charlie puts in about 80 hours a week and says he loves coming in everyday and connecting with the customers. “The main reason I think it has survived is because people like our fresher milk in the glass bottles. I also like to think it’s because of the people who work here and the family aspect, but what do I know.”
