A hometown perspective by one of our authors, Jennifer Lee.

Growing up in Pittsford, I was fortunate enough to live in such an active commerce hub. Like other neighboring towns, this lively community has it all from art and boutiques to designer apparel and delicious restaurants. It seemed like there was always something to do and a place to go. But Pittsford isn’t like any other town. In the heart of the historic village of Pittsford, you will find the one and only Pittsford Farms Dairy.
Like a lot of kids growing up, I had the biggest sweet tooth. Any chance I got I would find an excuse to get my family to go out for a sweet treat. Whether it was for an A on a test, a great game and win against the cross-town rivals or simply just because it was a beautiful day, I always found a way to satisfy my sugary cravings. With Pittsford being the home of so many businesses, I always had a long list to choose from. Some of my favorite places were Bill Gray’s, Abbott’s, Ben & Jerry’s and Yotality. As a kid, I couldn’t have asked for anything more because my town was like a Mecca of sweet treats! But then one day, I discovered Pittsford Farms Dairy.
It was a beautiful, sunny spring day and I had been invited to get ice cream with my neighbors. My neighbor, Isabel, said that we were going to Pittsford Dairy. I had never heard of Pittsford Dairy but I wasn’t the kind of kid to turn down ice cream, ever. Just a short 10-minute car ride later and we had arrived at a small building about the size of a car garage. Entering the unfamiliar territory, I got out of the car with doubt and confusion. But right when Isabel’s mom opened the door to the building, an aroma of delicious homemade ice cream came rushing out. It smelled like Abbott’s homemade custard, but better.
Isabel’s mom bought us a whole tub of plain vanilla ice cream and boy, it was the creamiest and richest vanilla ice cream I have ever had. After one scoop, I was hooked and 10 years later, I am still a loyal customer. With the big renovation in 2012, more people have become regulars like me. The delicious ice cream isn’t the only reason I’ve been coming back all these years. There is something about Pittsford Dairy that is charming, welcoming, and has a home-y feel to it.
Over the years, Pittsford Farms Dairy has become a place of reunion for me. A place I’d
go when my siblings or any of my older friends came home from college. Without fail, when Thanksgiving or Christmas break rolled around I always had plans to meet up at Pittsford Dairy with some old friends. When it was finally my turn to head off to college, I was worried that the Pittsford Dairy trips would slowly grow old like me. Fortunately for me, my love of Pittsford Dairy grew and spread in college. It became a place I’d go with my team to celebrate the start of a new season. It became a place I’d go with friends to celebrate after taking a test. It became a place for reunion, with my old and new best friends.
